Partnership for International Best Practice Exchange on City Climate Leadership
The U.S. Department of State and Bloomberg Philanthropies are partnering on an international city exchange to leverage the leadership role of international cities in building climate change action. The “Our Cities, Our Climate” program strengthens networks between international and U.S. cities, showcases cutting-edge U.S. climate change efforts, encourages the implementation of best practices at the subnational level, and reinforces climate-action momentum in the final months before December’s UNFCCC Conference of the Parties in Paris (COP21).
Representatives from 22 international cities visited Boston, San Francisco, and Washington, DC in early October, 2015 to interact with American leaders in the urban climate action field to discuss shared challenges, examine innovative practices, and create a network of global climate change leaders.
The Innovation Network for Communities supported the Our Cities, Our Climate program in four ways:
• Developing background materials for participants.
• Helping to design the site visits to San Francisco, Boston and Washington, DC.
• Facilitating the learning exchange.
• Preparing a report on City Climate Best Practices for distribution at the UN climate talks in Paris in December, 2015.
INC has been supported in this work by Meister Consultants Group, an international consultancy focused on sustainability.
